There are many sites and books with excellent information and "How To" guides for the wide range of Porsche 911 engines, but the 2L 911 engine is a special category. It is the original format for the 911, and represents the design brilliance and practical genius that launched the 911 to its iconic status.
I have benefited from the generosity of others in sharing their experience, both on line and through conversation to solve some specific problems that helped having, running, and tinkering with an early air cooled 911 engine a rewarding hobby.
Recently my 1968 2L Weber carburetted 911 developed a leaking head gasket noise, and so I found on the net and purchased a 1969 2L MFI engine and am now in the process of swapping the engines to get my car back up and running and to enable me to take the time to decide what work is required on the 1968 engine.
I hope that I can add to the pool of knowledge by describing some of things I have learnt and methods I have used to make it easier to appreciate these engines. While my experience is limited compared with others, it may be useful to some.
Please note, this blog is about the engine, not the car.
